Today, on February, 5, Hungarian parliamentary delegation, headed by Mr. Gabor Hars, head of the Hungarian delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, met with the representatives of Belarusian opposition and civil society. Chairman of Republic Human Rights Public Association “Belarusian Helsinki Committee” Aleh Hulak also took part in the meeting.

Situation with human rights in Belarus and prospects of further Belarusian- Hungarian cooperation were central issues of discussion.

Amnesty International has joined leading Belarusian human rights groups in condemning the death sentences handed down to two men convicted of murder in the city of Grodno.

Aleg Gryshkautsou (29) and Andrei Burdyka (28) were sentenced to death by shooting on 14 May 2010 for crimes committed during an armed robbery on a flat in Grodno in October 2009. Both men were pled guilty of premeditated murder, armed assault, arson, kidnapping of a minor, theft and robbery

Under such circumstances the sentence and custody of the condemned on this case turned out to be an outcome of trial with evident violations of procedural guarantees, related to political motives of the authorities, which comes within notion “political prisoners”, specified by experts of the Council of Europe (in accordance with the document of the Council of Europe SG\Inf(2001) 34\24 October 2001)
